Our first "official" trailer for our power fantasy mermaid RPG, Age of the Deep, featuring Mori, our water mage. Some of you are probably wondering "what took you so long to make a trailer?" Well we are largely unfunded. Relying on what I can scrape together from my day job in order to pay artists and musicians and voice actors. My time is largely spent developing the game mechanics. I wanted to get it to where it felt good to play before diving into a cinematic. While not quite where I want it, it does feel fun to play. So for the last few weeks I spent my time learning how to make a cinematic trailer. What you are watching is the first I've ever made. THE GAME: I crave an open world ocean exploration game full of high fantasy and ocean punk elements that blends thalassophobia and beauty. This is a melting pot of everything I enjoy about the genre. You will explore underwater biomes, tropical islands, fight off sharks, discover shipwrecks, and equip powerful items to help make sure you remain the apex predator. FAQ: "There's no tails. Why do you call them mermaids?" In our lore everything that is aquatic and sentient is considered a mermaid. Regardless of whether it has a tail or not. Human sailors refer to all races of mer under the same term. "Is there character customization?" Each character starts out in their starter outfits and you can change their appearance by finding and equipping new items. Currently we have multiple outfits per character planned. I am hoping this is received well and we can get some community involvement on what you would all like to see! "What support do you need?" Honestly right now just wishlist on Steam at the bare minimum. Participate in all the engagement bits. Share with everyone you think might like this. I know everyone is tired of hearing "Like and subscribe" but having numbers that prove I'm not wasting everyone's time does help. Massively. I think getting achievements in something I've made would be something to be immensely proud of considering how difficult it is just to get to this point. Beyond that I don't know. We'll have to see. "What are your post release plans?" I'm far from release still, I think, but I want to add more storyline content to this for free if this does well. With that comes new items and areas to explore. Once I feel satisfied that I have told my story, I have plans for a second game in another genre. I'm not going anywhere.   THE TEAM: Lead Developer: That's me! Ever since I started learning Unreal, AotD is the game I've wanted to make. I love the ocean, and I fear it at the same time. When I was a kid a hammerhead shark jumped into the boat that we were fishing out of. It felt like a real-life Jaws moment back then. But the ocean is also a beautiful place (when you can see what is around you) and I very much love games that feature the ocean and they inspired me to make this. I do all the blueprints and I shot this cinematic in Unreal sequencer. Composer: Grant Holzhauer - Works on all my music! I'm up to 20ish minutes of an OST so far. Voice Actor/Singer: Dani Finn - Voices Mori, the water mage, and sang for this trailer since it features her character. Singer: Rachel Hardy - Sang an amazing song that is featured in the game. Sound Effects: Michael Perez - On hand for some whish and woosh! Artist: Frogfann - Has drawn everything. Character designs, concepts, UI. On speed dial. 3D Artist: Cindy Gazafy - Sculpted several models so far, including the statues in this trailer! Indy Taen - Sculpted several corals and the current model for Mori in this trailer. Writing: Elliot Moors - Assisted in writing lore. Nerdic Translator - Has written early dialogue. [My Promise: I will not start a Patreon and lock anyone out of seeing what we are building. I detest scammer devs. I will not use genAI art. I genuinely love art made by people and go out of my way to champion the ones I work with. I haven't once taken money from anyone during this development time, everything you see is hard fought for. I haven't quit working on this since I started, nor am I likely to. I will most likely need to start a Kickstarter at some point. But I will finish this game.]
